Public Pianos at St. Pancras International

St. Pancras International launched their public pianos in 2012 when the City of London Festival celebrated its golden anniversary. They were installed at iconic landmarks as part of that celebration, but the team saw how positively they were received by visitors and so decided to continue them. This iconic destination is now home to 2 public pianos, full of charm and memories.

The ‘Andrew Lloyd Webber’ Piano

This piano is located in the main Arcade, just outside International Arrivals, offering a warm welcome to many national and international visitors as they’ve walked through the arrival’s doors.

The ‘Elton John’ Piano

At the opposite end, this piano is also located in the main shopping Arcade. In February 2016 Sir Elton surprised and delighted St. Pancras visitors with a mesmerising performance. Following this, the legendary Rocket Man himself left us this beautiful Yamaha piano as a gift, which he kindly signed before donating. His message reads: “Enjoy this piano. It’s a gift. Love, Elton John.”

Famous Faces

Some visitors have been lucky enough to have encountered a number of famous faces at these iconic pianos, from Sir Rod Sewart and Jools Holland, Tom Odell, Jeff Goldblum, Sara Bareilles and John Legend or of course, Sir Elton John.

Public Usage

The pianos are open and free to play for general, non-commercial use, with no booking required for this purpose. Should you want to use the piano for any other purpose, please read more here.

Kindly do not block the pianos. Be conscious of others wanting to tinkle the ivories after you. They are regularly tuned, and they may be closed on occasion for this purpose, but they are used very frequently, so please treat them with respect so that they can continue to be enjoyed. On occasion, if a large crowd forms, the station team may request the performances pause momentarily for safety and security purposes and the space will be managed accordingly.

We hope you enjoy the musical moments that you encounter and the magical moments you can create together on them.
