Veggie Food at St. Pancras: The Rail Food Revolution Starts Here

Not so long ago rail travel and decent food was an unthinkable pairing, with most of us having to make do with a stale cheese roll and a vending machine KitKat to keep the wolf from the door - and the least said about vegetarian options the better.

Well, here at St. Pancras, one of London’s busiest transport hubs, you can bid farewell to those choiceless monochrome days and welcome a new, plentiful era of railway cuisine.

Just because you maybe commuting through with little time to spare, it doesn’t mean you have to compromise. Let us help, here’s just a few veggie and vegan highlights you’ll find at St. Pancras.

Starting with breakfast...

Tasty sourdough bread and fresh avocado sprinkled with sesame seeds will definitely start your day off right. Although not technically ‘on-the-go’, Le Pain Quotidien’s Avocado Toast is a quick and simple breakfast for the short of time traveller passing through the King’s Cross area.

If you really are in a hurry and you need a veggie breakfast on the go, Chop'd and Sourced Market's natural yoghurt pots are definitely for you.

Next up, Lunch!

Benugo’s vegan Reuben Bloomer is perfect for your lunchtime pit-stop; sweet potato, roasted balsamic beetroot, vegan smoked Gouda cheese, sauerkraut, vegan mayo and spinach make this one a popular choice at St. Pancras. Don’t fancy a sandwich? That’s fine, try Benugo’s Middle Eastern Meze Wrap instead – it’s delish.

If sushi's more your thing, St. Pancras’ Yo!Sushi have a healthy selection of meat-free lunch alternatives, from cucumber and avocado maki sushi, yasai hand rolls, to tenderstem broccoli in sesame sauce. For a nice mix, we recommend getting Yo!Sushi’s Vegan Box.

If we're talking a salad lunch, then we’re heading to Chop’d. They have a fantastic variety of veggie and vegan salads, soups and stews. As a veggie looking for lunch, you’re guaranteed to find something scrummy.

Good for the planet...

Chop’d’s salads are environmentally friendly as well as you friendly; earlier this year Chop'd introduced the first 100% recycled plastic salad bowl, which is also 100% recyclable.

Sharing's caring...

This veggie share-cuterie is probably too nice to share. The Betjeman Arms, nestled in the station's Grand Terrace, is the perfect place for the pre-train luncheon.

A Veggie Dinner Date

Okay, a quick after-work drink has rolled into after-work drinks and now you start thinking about what's for dinner... You're out now so you may as well make the most of it, Searcys' new vegan burger made with chickpeas, avocado and coriander will help you do that.

Finally, it'll be a crime to talk veggie dining without mentioning Carluccio's, their delicious Giardinera pasta dish is the last feature in this article and it's a good'un. If you're at Carluccio's make sure you ask to be seated on the Terrace, although you may need to wrap-up in the winter it's well worth the dining experience underneath the picturesque train shed roof, overlooking the comings and goings of the Eurostar trains.

As well as enjoying something totally scrummy, you'll also be helping charity - for every Giardinera pasta dish, Carluccio's donates 50p to Action Against Hunger.
