John Betjeman Young People's Poetry Competition

The John Betjeman Young People's Poetry Competition was established to perpetuate the memory of one of Britain's best-loved poets and to promote a love of poetry amongst young people.

The John Betjeman Young People's Poetry Competition is open to 11-14 year-olds in the British Isles. The prize of £1,000 (£500 to the winner and £500 to the English department of his or her school) is donated by John Murray (Publishers) Ltd.

The prize-giving will take place on 5th October 2010 at St. Pancras International station. The first prize winner, runner-up and highly commended will also each win £50 worth of book tokens. Commended winners will receive books.

The closing date for the poetry competition is 31st July and the winners will be notified by September.
